Crummock Water with the mighty Grassmoor on the west and the fells of Mellbreak on the east, it has unparalleled views from either side. The lake is is 2 1/2 miles long, 3/4 mile wide and 140 feet deep. In addition, it is a clear, rocky bottomed lake flanked by steep fellsides of Skiddaw slate.
Situated between Loweswater and Buttermere, it is popular with wild swimmers. The River Cocker is considered to start at the north of the lake, before then flowing into Lorton Vale. Crummock Water is off the beaten-track, but well worth a visit. For a big adventure day, hike 3 lakes in a day and finish up with a re-energising wild swim.
