The world’s only museum devoted to Laurel and Hardy is in Ulverston, the town where Stan Laurel was born on 16th June 1890. Now offering vastly improved exhibition area for you to learn about the life and work of Stan Laure. Indeed, there are many information boards, personal items and pictures to see. The cinema area can accommodate around 30 people, showing films and documentaries all day.

The Laurel and Hardy Museum began as the private collection of Bill Cubin, a lifelong fan. Now run by his grandson, we hope to entertain and inform you about the worlds' best loved double act.New display recently opened. The museum began life as private collection, a wonderful jumble of memorabilia. The new display attempts to recreate that feeling. Birdoswald Roman Fort, was a fort, towards the western end of Hadrian’s Wall, in Brampton, Carlisle District of Cumbria. Today the site is occupied by a former farm called Birdoswald. Stand on the same ground as Roman soldiers who once patrolled and guarded their empire. And be blown away by the most famous Roman frontier spanning as far as the eye can see before you. This incredible feat of Roman engineering has dominated the landscape since AD 122
Explore the most impressive remaining defences of any fort along the Wall today. Follow the perimeter of the fort walls to find gates and watch towers, and be sure to stop off at the main east gate, which is the best preserved fort gate on Hadrian’s Wall.

For over 300 years, Birdoswald was one of 16 forts built as part of the Hadrian’s Wall frontier system. But the site has been occupied since and there’s a further 1000 years of history just waiting to be uncovered too. Discover the remains of a Dark Age hall, a medieval tower house and stories of the infamous border ‘reivers’.

Lacy's Caves are a series of 5 chambers in the red sandstone cliff of River Eden, just north of Little Salkeld. They are named after Lieutenant-Colonel Samuel Lacy of Salkeld Hall. Indeed, he commissioned their carving in the 18th century.
The reason for their creation is unknown, however, they were used by Lacy for entertaining guests. In addition, the area was originally planted with ornamental gardens.The site is a listed Regionally Important Geological Site by Eden District Council and public footpaths to the site are well maintained. Some of the path follows the line of a former tramway connecting Long Meg Mine with the nearby Settle–Carlisle line. The site is situated close to Long Meg and Her Daughters and on a popular circular walk.

Wasdale, the wildest of the valleys in the Lake District, is the remote and beautiful area between Gosforth. Situated within Copeland in West Cumbria, past Wastwater, England’s deepest lake. In addition, up to the mountains Great Gable and Scafell Pike, England’s highest mountain. The River Irt flows through the valley to its estuary at Ravenglass. A large part of the main valley floor is occupied by Wastwater.

At the edge of the village is the picturesque village of Gosforth. St Mary’s Church dates from Norman times. In its churchyard is England’s tallest ancient cross, and a cork tree, planted in 1833, the most northerly in Europe.
There is a National Trust campsite at the Wasdale Head end of the lake. At the other end is the Wasdale Hall Youth Hostel, also owned by the National Trust.
